The Clock's Ticking.. Its Nearly Tree o'Clock! PDF Print E-mail

It's Tree O'Clock: time we all turned over a new leaf and planted a tree in  Manchester.

treeoclocklogo1Tree O'Clock is the BBC Breathing Places mass tree-planting event which takes place on 5 December 2009.

If you want get involved in this ground-breaking project and have your tree be included in a world record attempt, follow these steps:

Step 1. Get a tree
Step 2. Plant your tree
Step 3. Take a photo
Step 4. Email your photo

Get a tree

To get a tree for free, Manchester City Council is holding a tree giveaway in five parks the week before Tree O'Clock.

Anyone can go and pick up their free tree from one of five 'tree stations' in parks in Manchester (see box).

Don't forget to collect your tree between Monday 30th November and Friday 4th December, so you can plant it as part of the world record.

Across the UK, thousands of people will be attempting to plant more than 600,000 trees within a single hour - and hopefully set a new World Record!

Plant your tree

You can plant your tree at home OR at one of a number of public tree planting events across Greater Manchester.

Wythenshawe Park is one of Manchester's main public events, where they're aiming to plant 2,000 hedges around the perimeter of a woodland known as The Big Round.

To count towards the world record, every tree must be planted between on 5th December, between 11am and 12 noon.

To find out about local events, or how to plant in your own space visit the tree o'clock website.

Take and send a photo

We need evidence to prove you have planted the tree so we can verify the record with Guinness World Records.

Take a photo and send it to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 12 noon on Friday 11th December 2009.
We also need you to tell us what type of tree you have planted and the full postal address of your site, so make sure you include this in your email.

All photos and personal information will be shared with Guinness World Records for adjudication purposes.
