New green roof taking shape! PDF Print E-mail

Nearly 500 square metres of green roof is being created as part of the town hall extension transformation.

A green or living roof is defined as a system where vegetation is incorporated into the roofsurfacing, providing biodiversity and insulation benefits, as well as helping reduce water run off.

The THX green roof is designed to be sustainable and low maintenance, comprising of Sedum matting, plus a rubble area for invertebrates, which in turn provides a great foraging area for birds - in particular the rare Black Redstart.

Fancy something a little different this bank holiday weekend? Feel like getting in touch with nature?

Then bring the family to Heaton Park on Saturday 25 May and join OPAL for a day of tree identifaction, nature challenges, ug hunts and craft activities.

Learn about the importance of trees in our towns and cities and the important habitats they create for different species.

This event is completely free and will last from 10.30am to 3.00pm.
